Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy, is a skin rejuvenation treatment that helps to minimize the signs of aging, reduce the appearance of acne scars, and decrease fine lines and wrinkles. Microneedling has also been shown to help with burns and surgery scars, to smooth sun damaged skin and to help with skin pigmentation. This procedure has been shown to be safe and effective on all skin types and can be used on many different parts of the body. Maura will customize the treatment to address your individual concerns. For example, brown spots, uneven and dull skin, scars, and aging skin.
The microneedling device uses fine needles to create controlled micro punctures in the skin in order to stimulate the body's natural wound repairing process. This process includes the release of cytokines and other growth chemicals which prompts the remodeling of collagen and elastin. There are three phases to the wound repair process.
Microneedling is done with a state of the art, medical-grade device. The length of the treatment varies on the location of the procedure and how many areas are being done. Generally, patients report a feeling of slight vibration during the treatment but the process is relatively pain free. The healing process itself varies from patient to patient. Most patients do report some slight swelling and redness akin to a sunburn for two to four days after the procedure.
