Belkyra is an injectable chemical that dissolves substantial fat around the jawline, neck and under the chin. It is a noninvasive way to effectively eliminate your double chin! Belkyra consists of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid. This acid is a compound found naturally in the body, aiding in digestion and in the absorption of dietary fats. When Belkyra is injected into an area, the compound destroys the fat cell membranes which allows the fat inside to be released and naturally eliminated from the body. Belkyra is Health Canada and FDA approved.
First, we do a comprehensive consultation to assess the suitability of the treatment. We'll mark out the treatment zone using anatomical landmarks for guidance. The amount of Belkyra that is injected is dependent upon your anatomy and desired results. The treatment itself only takes a few minutes to perform and then you can be on your way! With Belkyra, it can take several days or even weeks for the fat to dissolve completely. If you do not see the desired results after your first visit, subsequent injections may be required. On an average, two to four treatments are often required to achieve optimal results. Appointments are scheduled from four to six weeks apart to allow the compound and your body time to dissolve the fat cells.
The most common side effect of Belkyra is swelling. This can last up to three days after your injection and can be treated with ice and over the counter pain medication. You may also experience some bruising, redness, itchiness, and some general discomfort. Some patients also experience some tenderness or numbness in the targeted area. If your job requires you to work in the public, you may want to schedule your appointment towards the end of your work week to give your body time to recuperate from the redness, swelling, and bruising.
